It starts with ideas

We start by planning out the issue according to what recipes and cuts we want to highlight and what sorts of techniques and flavors will suit the season the best. Then the layout begins and sketching comes into play to help plan out props, lighting, and styling.

With the proposed sketches and ideas approved, recipes are tested ahead of shoot day. Then it comes down to the week and a half of non-stop food-prep, cooking, styling, shooting, propping, rinse repeat. We typically shoot between 5 to 7 recipes in a day, creating content not only for the magazine, but also for online social, and if we were feeling especially motivated, we’ll pop a few animations into the mix too.
