DECADENT HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS

I was honored to lead the production for Publix Supermarkets’ 2023 Holiday Campaign in partnership with 22 Squared and Gold Sky Filmworks. This project celebrated the warmth, indulgence, and joy of holiday gatherings, featuring vibrant, elegant visuals of festive meals and desserts. Designed for flexibility across platforms, the campaign emphasized approachable elegance that resonated with Publix’s diverse audience.


THE CREATIVE ASK

The campaign focused on the decadence of holiday foods and the joy of gathering. Key creative directives included:

Warm textures
Incorporating ceramics, brass, wood, and linens for a refined yet inviting look.

Festive color palette
Vibrant greens, crimson accents, and warm neutrals to evoke holiday spirit.

Versatile layouts
Stills shot on white or neutral backgrounds to support cross-platform adaptability.

A human touch
Hands and partial bodies were integrated into both videos and stills to convey a genuine sense of togetherness.

Sourced relatable yet refined talent and coordinated seasonal wardrobe styling.

Props & Food Styling
Curated holiday-themed props, elegant serving pieces, and festive greenery while preparing and styling dishes to perfection.

Photography & Video Production
Captured vibrant, punchy stills and soft, natural light videos to align with Publix’s brand aesthetic preferences.

Asset Delivery
Delivered meticulously organized and high-quality stills and raw video files to 22 Squared for post-production.


DELIVERED ASSETS

20+ vibrant detailed stills
including hero product images, lifestyle setups with talent, and group compositions. All assets were captured on white for maximum flexibility across multiple platforms including social, website, in-store displays, billboards, and printed holiday guides.

showcasing celebratory gatherings, food preparation, and Publix products in warm, inviting environments.


SELECT STILLS


BEFORE/AFTER

Shooting on white surfaces maximizes design flexibility, allowing designers to isolate and recombine elements effortlessly to create endless layouts. This approach ensures the cleanest foundation for post-production, making it easy to adapt assets across platforms and contexts.

Assets are intentionally captured slightly muted to retain all details in shadows and highlights without clipping. During post-production, colors and lighting are refined, and shadows are meticulously separated from the subject and background. This process preserves the vibrancy and accuracy of the colors while enabling assets to be seamlessly layered over any surface or color. The result is visually striking imagery, with individual elements easily reconfigured to create alternative compositions. For example, the single peppermint ice cream image served as the foundation for all three ice cream compositions shown below.

This collection of commercial food photography was awarded a two page spread in the 2024 CommArts Photography Annual

RECOGNITION

The campaign received industry acclaim, including a two-page spread in Communication Arts’ 2024 Photography Annual, which celebrated its excellence in visual storytelling and execution.

The client expressed their gratitude for how unexpectedly smooth the entire production went, recognizing the large number of assets delivered and the complexity of working in a hybrid production with both stills and video. Additionally, our team successfully integrated this production with other campaigns being developed simultaneously for different parts of the seasonal rollout.


MOTION

Publix prefers a soft light aesthetic for their video assets, distinct from the stills. These were graded by 22 Squared to align with their creative specifications.
